About Us
About EASS:
The Employers Association of South Sudan (EASS) is a group of businesses created and registered with the Ministry of Justice in 2012 to serve as a business voice on Labour and social issues in the Republic of South Sudan. EASS is recognized by the Government and has a good working relationship with the Ministry of Labour, however independent of the Government as a private association, non-political, non-partisan, and non-religious. Since its creation, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has been supporting EASS activities in South Sudan and building its capacities to enable the organization to deliver much-needed services to members, influence Labour policies, and advocate and represent their members in labour-related matters.
There is no doubt that EASS also suffered the consequences of the arms conflict in South Sudan which broke in December 2013, just a year after its creation. The first Chair of the Board disappeared around that time and has not been heard of to date. The entire responsibility of the organization fell upon the deputy currently serving as the acting interim Chair. Further, several other prominent members of the Association fled the country mainly to the neighboring countries during the years of strife. The Association also needed communication breakdowns leading to an inactive Board with no records of Board meetings.
In addition, the organization has been in existence without a functioning Secretariat. This hindered the ability of the organization to operationalize its Strategic Plan for the previous years. There has thus been limited information dissemination about EASS to the public, limited services to its members, a weak membership base, and a lack of outreach programs in the country.
The current revitalized peace deal in the country and the gradual economic recovery have provided a wonderful opportunity for EASS to revive and reposition itself in a way to secure adequate membership, pursue a more inclusive and representative membership in South Sudan, secure funds from prospective donors, generate adequate subscriptions, service income, employ and attract competent staffs who can effectively run the secretariat and above all establish itself as a strong and credible business voice to enable the government continue to recognize that employers’ voice matters.

Word by the Chairman
Fellow members of the board, our secretariat, and business members allow me at this juncture to commend all of you for the wonderful job well accomplished with the Employers Association of South Sudan revised strategic plan 2021-2025. This strategic plan is the result of our consultations and contributions as such the responsibility of operationalizing it including its full implementation lies on the shoulders of each one of us.
It is important to note that the EASS strategic plan 2021-2025 has allowed us to re-evaluate ourselves as an organization and together we have agreed and decided on the next path forward. We now have had the opportunity to know where we are as an organization, where we want to be in the next four years, how we will get there and how we will know we have arrived. Therefore, this strategic plan points us in the right direction over the coming years, helping us to become better and better at what we do in fulfilling our promise of ensuring a successful business voice in the Republic of South Sudan.
I, therefore, call upon us all to exert maximum efforts in all our capacities to ensure that what is contained in this strategic plan is translated into action for the progress and prosperity of the Employers Association of South Sudan. In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank and appreciate the support we have been receiving from the International Labour Organization (ILO), through whom this strategic plan is possible. As an organization, we are committed to working with ILO in South Sudan to deliver our mandate as employers’ representatives.
